Proof that sometimes the dial really is enough to make a watch special.
The SRPB41 is not the most technically impressive watch in this guide. It does not need to be. The Blue Moon dial is the reason to buy it, backed by a dependable Seiko automatic movement and a design that looks far more expensive than its price suggests.

Why it made our list
Most of the watches in this guide make their case with specifications. The SRPB41 takes a different route. Put it next to the divers, field watches and sports watches around this price and your attention goes straight to the dial.
Seiko calls this version the Blue Moon, and the name suits it. The deep blue dial is pressed with a radiating pattern that catches light from different angles. It can look almost navy in one moment and considerably brighter in the next. The long, polished markers add another layer of reflection without making the dial feel busy.
There is a straightforward 4R35 automatic movement underneath it all, with hand winding, hacking and around 41 hours of power reserve. Those numbers are hardly exotic. That is part of the point. This is the design-first choice in our top five, and at its price we are perfectly comfortable with that.
Design & wearability
At 40.5mm, the Cocktail Time is larger than the traditional idea of a dress watch. That actually makes sense here. The dial is the main event, and the wider case gives the texture and long hour markers enough space to make an impression.
The polished case, narrow bezel and box-shaped crystal reinforce the dressier side of the design, but the SRPB41 does not demand a suit. It works just as well as the slightly smarter watch you wear with everyday clothes. That makes the term dress watch feel a little restrictive, even if that is the role it fills in this guide.
The bracelet is where the illusion slips. It looks appropriate enough, but it does not have the same sense of quality as the dial and case. This is also one of those watches that arguably becomes more interesting once the bracelet comes off. A good brown, black or navy leather strap puts even more attention on the dial and gives the Cocktail Time a more traditional character.
Hardlex rather than sapphire is another compromise. So is 50 metres of water resistance. Neither ruins the watch, but both are reminders that Seiko spent the budget where you can see it rather than trying to win a specification sheet.
Seiko
Seiko's history began in Tokyo in 1881, when Kintaro Hattori opened a shop selling and repairing clocks and watches. The company would eventually grow into one of the few major watchmakers capable of producing everything from affordable mechanical watches to high-end movements largely within its own group.
Presage sits on the mechanical side of that story. The Cocktail Time collection takes a particularly decorative approach, pairing mechanical movements with glossy, textured dials inspired by cocktails and the atmosphere of a cocktail bar. The SRPB41 is the blue model Seiko calls the Blue Moon.
Our verdict
There are easy ways to criticize the SRPB41. Hardlex is less appealing than sapphire. Fifty metres of water resistance is ordinary. The 4R35 is reliable rather than exciting, and we would happily trade the factory bracelet for something better.
None of those things changes what happens when light hits the dial. That is where this Seiko earns its place. The Blue Moon has the sort of visual depth that makes you look at your wrist when you already know what time it is.
At $475 retail, that matters. We are not expecting the specification sheet of a $1,000 sports watch. Instead, the Cocktail Time offers something the other four watches in this guide do not: a watch built primarily around how it looks and how it makes you feel when you wear it.
Put it on a good leather strap and the case becomes even stronger. Keep it on steel and it remains the dressiest watch in our selection. Either way, the dial is the reason we would buy it.
